The Xinjia Yi Lu was developed in the early 20th Century by Chen Fake and popularized by his senior students. Accounts vary regarding the intention behind the differences between the traditional Laojia (Old Frame) forms and his Xinjia (New Frame) forms. Some explain that the changes were made in order to make the internal motions and subtle applications more obvious to his students. Various versions of Chen Fake's New Frame have spread since he began teaching in Beijing in 1928.
