Getting Started at the Taoist Sanctuary

Taijiquan Classes

What do I do first?

New students can try a taijiquan class for free. Find a class that fits your schedule and come in 10 minutes early. Check in at the front desk, and you are ready to go!

What can I expect?

Each class starts with a set of warm up exercises followed by standing practice. A teaching assistant will then take you for a short private lesson to introduce you to the Laojia yilu form. Should you decide to sign up for classes, you can do these private lessons until you are caught up and ready to join the regular class.

Can I watch the regular class or do I stay in my private lesson the whole hour?

If you want to watch some of the regular class, just let your teacher know and he/she will finish with you a little early.

What should I wear?

Comfortable loose clothing is best. The floors are wood and carpet, so shoes are suggested. There are no uniforms.

What if I want to sign up?

If we are still accepting new students, you can sign up and pay at the end of your private lesson, or the next time you come to class.
