The Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego is a non-profit organization dedicated to the teaching of Taijiquan, Qi Gong and Taoist meditation, Taoist philosophy and Traditional Chinese Healing methods. The school was founded in 1975, and is directed by Bill Helm, Taoist Priest, Chinese medical practitioner and martial artist.
The primary focus at the Taoist Sanctuary is on Chen Style Taijiquan. The Chen style Laojia Yi Lu (Old Frame First Road) is taught as our Level One form. The emphasis in Level One is on health and gentle strengthening. Level One instruction also includes Chen Style Silk Reeling exercises, which form the basis for the moves and postures in the form. After corrections on the Laojia Form, students can progress to beginning Push Hands training and a weapons form. The emphasis at this level shifts to the more martial aspects of Taijiquan. Instruction in these classes includes power training, all 5 levels of Push Hands, and more weapons training, including sword, broadsword, kwandao and spear forms. In addition to ongoing classes in Taijiquan and Qi Gong the Taoist Sanctuary hosts visiting masters including Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang for classes and workshops.
The Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego is a 501(c) non-profit organization and gratefully accepts financial contributions. All donations are tax-deductible. The Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego welcomes all students regardless of belief, race, sexual orientation, or ethnic origin.
